Ronnie's Story—A father's perspective on vaccine injury

No amount of saying it isn't my fault can quiet the thought that it is my fault. I'm the one who took Eric to the doctor.

Jennifer and I met in 1982 at a game room. It was love at first site for me. When I asked her to marry me, and she said yes, I was afraid she might change her mind if she knew I had no money. But on Dec. 15, 1984, we were married.

We started out living in a trailer in Mobile, Ala. I was a waiter at a resturant in Mobile, and Jennifer was going to school to get her LPN so she could work as a nurse. Life was great. We wanted children, but we needed a house first. We wanted to provide a good home. Our trailer wasn't big enough for a baby.

In 1987, we finally got our house. It was brand new, and we loved it. Now, it was time for a baby. I could not wait. I love kids. I could hear the pitter patter of little feet in the house already. As month after month passed, it was on our minds all the time.

It tooks months before we finally heard those words we had been waiting for, "You are going to be parents." I was on cloud 9. "We have to get started on a baby's room!" It was one of the happiest days of my life. I sometimes thank God that we cannot see into the future.
